Indie the School Dog
Meet 'Indie'
A variety of animals, including dogs, are becoming an increasingly popular and valuable addition to schools across the country. We value the development of children’s well-being and believe that a school dog offers a unique way to enrich all areas of children’s wider education, skills and emotional development. With this in mind, we have introduced Indie, an Australian Shepherd, into our school.
Each year we invite Indie into an assembly where we share The Dogs Trust Be Safe, Be Kind information with the children. Indie then visits the children once a week in their classes, in forest school and in the playground, always under the close supervision of her owner, Mrs Stokes. Indie also has a quiet space under Mrs Stokes’ desk in the school office where she can rest whenever she needs to.
Children who wish to interact with Indie are invited to stroke her under adult supervision. No child is required to interact with her or even see her if they choose not to.
